Shower Hose Connectors
Shower hose connectors and thread adapters for matching a hose to a valve or handset. We supply straight connectors, reducers, 90-degree angled fittings, and imperial-to-metric adapters covering 1/2 inch BSP, 3/8 BSP and 10mm metric threads. Useful when a replacement hose has different threads to the old one, when installing in a tight space, or when adapting a handset from one brand to a valve from another.
Common Shower Hose Thread Sizes
Thread size is the first thing to confirm when ordering a connector. UK showers use a small number of standard thread patterns, and almost every connector or adapter is sold on that basis. The table below covers the threads we stock most.
| Thread | What it means | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2 inch BSP | Standard UK mixer and handset thread | Most UK mixer showers |
| 3/8 inch BSP | Reduced thread, older spec | Pre-2000 mixers, some imports |
| 3/4 inch BSP | Larger thread, higher-flow valves | Higher-flow and rainfall mixers, some pumps |
| 10mm metric | European spec | Imported Hansgrohe, Grohe, some modern rainfall |
| 90-degree angle | Right-angle fitting, any thread size | Tight installations, shower columns |
If your existing hose is the wrong thread for a new valve or handset, an adapter is usually quicker and cheaper than buying a new hose. If you do need a new hose, see the full shower hoses range, or browse other shower spares for valve and handset parts often replaced alongside.
Connector and Adapter Types
Straight connectors and extensions
Join a hose to a valve or handset of the same thread. Also used to extend a hose by a short length where a second full hose would be too long.
Reducers and adapters
Change thread size in a single fitting. 1/2 inch BSP to 3/8 inch BSP is the most common reducer. Metric-to-BSP adapters let you use a UK-standard hose with an imported valve, or vice versa.
90-degree angled fittings
Turn the hose through a right angle at the valve outlet or handset end. Typical use is a wall-mounted mixer where the hose would otherwise foul the tray edge, or a shower column where the hose has to exit behind the handset.
Swivel connectors
Allow the hose to rotate at the connection point without twisting the hose along its length. Common on pull-out handsets and any hose that is moved frequently. Replacement washers also feature heavily in connector failures, so check our shower hose washers range first if your only fault is a small leak at the joint.
How to Identify Your Connector Thread
Measure the outer diameter of the threaded male part, or the inner diameter of the female nut, using a ruler or vernier. 1/2 inch BSP reads roughly 21mm, 3/4 inch BSP roughly 26mm. Metric 10mm reads 10mm on the male thread.
Thread pitch (the distance between threads) is a secondary check. BSP uses 14 threads per inch; metric uses 1mm pitch. Counting threads is only needed when the outer diameter sits between two standard sizes.
If the shower is older than ten years or the connector is corroded, take a clear photo of the thread end-on and send it to our team. We will compare it against current stock and confirm the right fitting. See our manufacturer directory if you know the brand but not the thread.
Frequently Asked Questions
What thread size do UK shower hoses use?
Most UK shower hoses use 1/2 inch BSP female threads at both ends. Some higher-flow and older rainfall mixers use 3/4 inch. Metric threads (typically 10mm) are occasionally found on imported Hansgrohe and Grohe hoses. When buying a connector, match the thread on the hose to the thread on the valve outlet or handset.
Do I need an adapter between the hose and valve?
Only if the threads do not match. A 1/2 inch BSP hose fits a 1/2 inch BSP valve outlet without an adapter. If the valve is 3/4 inch or metric, or if the hose came with a different thread, an adapter or reducer lets you use the existing hose. 90-degree connectors are a separate category, used to change the direction of the hose in tight installations rather than to change thread size.
How do I measure a shower hose thread?
Measure the outer diameter of the threaded male part (on the valve or handset). 1/2 inch BSP measures roughly 21mm across the thread, 3/4 inch BSP measures roughly 26mm, and 10mm metric measures 10mm. Count threads per centimetre if you need to be certain, or bring the old connector to the trade counter for matching.
What is a 90-degree shower hose connector?
A right-angle fitting that sits between the valve outlet and the hose, turning the hose 90 degrees. Useful when the valve outlet points straight forward but the hose needs to run along the wall, or inside a shower column where a straight hose would not fit. Sometimes called an elbow connector or angled adapter.
