Tap Cartridge Trade Packs and Box Sets for Plumbers
Mixed cartridge assortments, monobloc packs and van stock solutions for trade use.
A tap cartridge box set is a ready-stocked assortment of the most frequently replaced cartridges, put together so a plumber can clear a dripping tap on the first visit without returning to a supplier. The 1/2" assortment boxes cover the quarter-turn and ceramic disc cartridges found in the majority of standard pillar and bar taps. The 3/4" box covers the larger-bodied cartridges used in bath taps and higher-flow fittings. If your callouts run heavily to monobloc mixer taps, the monobloc-specific assortment keeps the right cartridge profiles together separately. For plumbers who have accumulated their own collection of cartridges and need a labelled, compartmentalised box to store and organise them, the empty storage box is sold on its own.
Box Set Formats: What Each Pack Contains
Choose the format that matches the tap types you work on most.
| Format | What It Contains |
|---|---|
| 1/2" Cartridge Box (23 Pairs) | 23 pairs of 1/2" quarter-turn and ceramic disc tap cartridges covering the most common pillar tap, bar tap and basin mixer cartridge profiles. Supplied in a sectioned plastic case. |
| 1/2" Cartridge Box (25 Pairs) | Expanded 25-pair version of the 1/2" assortment. Covers a wider spread of cartridge profiles for plumbers working across a broader range of fittings. Two variants: full assortment (EBTAPCAR) and with 1/2" valves included (TBBOX). |
| 3/4" Cartridge Box | Assortment of 3/4" cartridges for bath taps and higher-flow fittings where the larger cartridge body is required. Cartridge diameter is printed on the body of the existing cartridge and should be confirmed before ordering. |
| MonoBlock Cartridge Pack | 20-piece assortment of monobloc tap cartridges for single-hole mixer taps. Monobloc cartridges differ from pillar tap cartridges in body length and stem profile. Kept separate to avoid confusion on site. |
| Empty Storage Box | The sectioned plastic storage case sold separately, without cartridges. For plumbers building their own sorted assortment from existing stock or specific branded cartridges they have sourced individually. |
| Spline Finder (Buy) | The BathroomSpareParts branded tap cartridge spline finder. A physical gauge used to identify an unknown cartridge by measuring the spline count and head profile. Purchased outright. |
| Spline Finder (Loan) | The Quick Check spline finder available on a loan basis. Same function as the purchased version. Useful for one-off identification jobs before committing to a box set or individual cartridge order. |
What does a tap cartridge spline finder actually do?
When a cartridge has no visible brand markings and the tap manufacturer cannot be confirmed, the spline count on the cartridge stem is often the most reliable way to narrow down the correct replacement. The spline finder is a slotted gauge: you slot the stem into each opening until you find the match, which gives you the spline count and head diameter to cross-reference against a cartridge reference chart. It does not confirm the body length or flow direction, so those still need to be measured separately.
Questions About Tap Cartridge Box Sets
Common questions from plumbers about assortment contents, sizing and spline finders.
What is a tap cartridge spline finder and how do I use it?
A spline finder is a physical gauge with a series of slots or teeth profiles cut into it. You remove the cartridge from the tap, then slot the cartridge stem into each opening on the gauge until the fit is snug. That tells you the spline count, which is the number of teeth around the stem. Combined with the head diameter and body length, the spline count is usually enough to identify the correct replacement cartridge. The BathroomSpareParts spline finder is available to buy outright or borrow on a loan basis if you only need it for a single identification job.
What is the difference between the 1/2" and 3/4" cartridge box sets?
The size refers to the cartridge body diameter, not the tap connection size. Most basin taps, pillar taps and kitchen mixer taps use 1/2" cartridges. Bath taps with a higher flow rate, and some older bar taps, use the larger 3/4" body. The diameter is usually printed on the side of the cartridge body itself. If the existing cartridge has been disposed of, the tap manufacturer and model number are the next best route to confirming the correct size before selecting a box set.
What does the monobloc tap cartridge box set contain?
The monobloc pack contains 20 cartridges selected for single-hole mixer taps, where both hot and cold flow are controlled through one body. Monobloc cartridges tend to have a longer stem and a different internal flow profile compared with standard pillar tap cartridges, so they are packaged separately to avoid mix-ups on site. If your workload includes a significant proportion of kitchen monobloc taps, it makes sense to keep this alongside rather than mixed into a standard 1/2" assortment.
Can I buy an empty cartridge box to build my own assortment?
Yes. The sectioned plastic storage case is sold separately as the EMPTYTBOX. It uses the same compartmentalised tray format as the pre-filled box sets, so you can populate it with specific cartridges you have sourced individually, branded cartridges for a particular manufacturer you work with regularly, or odd cartridges accumulated from previous jobs that you want to sort and label properly. It is the same physical case, sold without contents.
How do I identify which tap cartridge I need when I am on site?
Remove the cartridge and check three things: the body diameter (usually printed on the side), the stem spline count (use the spline finder gauge to measure this), and the body length in millimetres. If the cartridge has a brand name or part number printed on it, that is the fastest route to a direct match. If there are no markings, the spline count plus diameter will narrow the field significantly. For cartridges with no markings at all and no model information available, email a photo to sales@bathroomspareparts.co.uk and the team can assist with identification before you order.
