Bathroom Wastes & Spares
When a bath waste stops holding water or a basin plug spins without gripping, the part that has failed is usually small, specific and hard to find at a trade counter. We stock replacement bath wastes, basin wastes, shower wastes, bottle traps, waste traps and kitchen waste fittings, including clicker bath waste mechanisms, overflow covers and individual seals. Pura and other leading brands are held.
Waste Spares for Basin, Bath, Shower and Kitchen Fittings
Replacement parts for waste fittings that have failed, worn or cracked
A bath waste that no longer holds water, a basin waste plug that spins without gripping, a shower waste cover that has cracked, a bottle trap joint that weeps behind the cabinet: these are the faults that send most customers searching for a replacement part. Bathroom wastes fail through use rather than age, and when one does, the specific replacement is rarely on the shelf at a local merchant. We stock bath waste replacement parts including clicker bath waste mechanisms, pop-up wastes and overflow covers, alongside basin waste fittings, shower wastes, waste traps and bottle traps. Kitchen waste and urinal waste spares are also covered. Most faults trace to a worn seal, a damaged plug mechanism or a cracked waste body, and most are available here individually.
What Fitting Do You Have? Find It By What You Can See
Locate your fixture below, then match the observation on the left to identify your waste type
Bath
Also called a click-clack waste or bath waste clicker. The spring-loaded mechanism wears with use. It usually replaces without removing the waste body from the bath.
The plug, seal or waste body has failed. Bath waste replacement parts are available individually. Plug, seal and overflow components can each be replaced alone.
The overflow cover is a separate component on most baths and can be replaced without touching the waste plug mechanism at the base.
Basin
The slot in the waste body lets overflow water drain through the fitting. If your basin has an overflow hole, this is the type you need. Fitting an unslotted waste here blocks the overflow.
Used in basins with no overflow outlet. Fitting a slotted waste to this type of basin causes constant slow drainage. The type must match your basin exactly.
Common with basin mixer taps. If the plug no longer holds position, the linkage rod or plug seal has usually failed. The mechanism disconnects without removing the waste body.
Under the Basin or Shower
The lower seal has perished. The bottle section unscrews by hand for cleaning or seal replacement. A full bottle trap assembly replaces without cutting the waste pipe.
P-trap outlets are horizontal (pipe exits the wall). S-trap outlets are vertical (pipe exits the floor). Seals, nuts and full trap assemblies are available for both types.
Outlet sizes vary by tray and manufacturer. Measure the existing outlet diameter before ordering. 90mm is most common, but 50mm, 60mm and 115mm outlets are all in use.
Slotted or unslotted? It matters more than most people realise.
Slotted and unslotted basin wastes look identical from above. The difference is a horizontal slot cut into the threaded body of the fitting. If your basin has an overflow hole near the rim, it needs a slotted waste. Fitting an unslotted waste to an overflow basin blocks the overflow channel permanently. Check before ordering.
Questions About Bathroom Waste Fittings
Identification and replacement guidance for the most common waste fitting queries
What is the difference between a clicker bath waste and a click-clack waste?
They are the same thing. Clicker bath waste, click-clack waste and bath waste clicker are all names for the same mechanism: a bath waste plug that opens and closes by pressing it down. The spring inside wears with repeated use, which is why the plug eventually stops locking or springing back. In most cases the mechanism replaces without removing the waste body from the bath. Measure the outlet diameter before ordering: 38mm and 42mm are most common, but confirm against your fitting.
What is the difference between a P-trap and an S-trap waste trap?
It depends on where the soil pipe exits. A P-trap has a horizontal outlet and connects to a pipe in the wall. An S-trap has a vertical outlet and connects to a pipe in the floor. The trap type must match the pipe position or the outlet will not reach. If you are replacing like for like, the existing trap body tells you which type you have. Both use the same seal sizes in most standard 32mm and 40mm trap configurations.
Can I replace just the bath overflow cover without replacing the full waste?
In most cases yes. The bath overflow cover sits on the front face of the bath over the overflow outlet and is the part most likely to discolour, crack or lose its finish. It does not affect the waste plug at the base of the bath. If the plug still holds water, you only need the overflow cover. Check the fixing method before ordering: some covers use a central screw, others clip into a slot on the overflow pipe body.
Are shower wastes a standard size, or do dimensions vary between manufacturers?
Shower waste sizes are not standardised. The most common outlet diameter is 90mm, but 50mm, 60mm and 115mm outlets are all in use, particularly in older enclosures from European manufacturers. The trap outlet also varies: 40mm is standard for most shower traps, but some trays use 50mm. Before ordering, measure the diameter of the existing waste outlet and the trap connection. If you are replacing the tray, confirm the waste size and position from the tray specification before purchasing.
My basin waste plug spins in the hole without gripping. What has failed?
A basin waste plug spinning without gripping usually means the retaining clip or rubber gasket on the plug has worn. The plug is replaceable separately on most wastes without removing the waste body. Check whether your fitting uses a click-clack mechanism or a simple rubber plug on a chain: the replacement part differs. If the waste body itself is cracked or the thread is stripped, the full waste assembly will need replacing rather than just the plug.
