Replacement Tap Parts for Every Type of Tap
Tap Spares Stocked Across 25 Brands and Hundreds of Models
The catalogue covers bath taps, basin taps, kitchen mixer taps and shower mixer taps. Parts are listed by brand and model, then by revision date where the manufacturer changed internal components during production. A Bristan 1901 basin mixer made in 2005 takes a different cartridge to one made in 2013. Both are here.
Brands covered include Bristan, Ideal Standard, Armitage Shanks, Vado, Grohe, Hansgrohe, Heritage, Sottini, Clearwater, Keuco, Gessi and Dornbracht, alongside smaller and discontinued ranges. If the tap is no longer in production, parts are often still available here when they are no longer carried by trade counters or the manufacturer directly.
Tap Replacement Parts Stocked to Model and Revision Date
Most tap parts are not universal. A ceramic disc cartridge has a body diameter, a turn angle and a stem length. Get any one of those wrong and the tap either will not close or will not fit the body. The same applies to mixer cartridges, where the spline count and stem format determine compatibility. Parts here are listed with the fitment data you need to order correctly: body diameter, turn type, brand fit and, where relevant, the production date range the part applies to. Check the existing cartridge or valve before ordering if you are unsure of the size.
Parts for Discontinued Tap Brands and Hard-to-Find Valve Bodies
When a tap brand stops trading, spare parts disappear from trade counters quickly. Bathstore is the clearest example: the brand no longer exists but the taps are still installed in thousands of UK bathrooms. Cartridges, valves and other internal parts for discontinued ranges are stocked here where supply still exists.
For taps where no standard replacement cartridge exists, bespoke cartridges can be made to measure against the original valve body dimensions. Send us the measurements or the original part and we will identify whether a made-to-measure replacement is possible before you order.
Tap Spare Parts: What Fails and What to Replace It With
Dripping and Stiff Taps: Cartridges, Washers and Valves
A tap that drips constantly with the handle fully closed has a failed internal component. Which part depends on the tap type.
Traditional Pillar Tap
The rubber washer or jumper valve has worn. Pull the headwork out and the washer will be visibly compressed or cracked. Inexpensive to replace without removing the tap body.
Ceramic Disc Tap
The disc set has cracked or the O-rings around the cartridge have perished. The cartridge comes out as a single unit. Match the body diameter and turn angle before ordering the replacement.
Single-Lever Mixer Tap
A stiff lever or spout drip points to the mixer cartridge. Remove it and measure the body diameter, count the splines, and check whether the stem is flat base or peg leg.
Tap Accessories and Finishing Parts: Aerators, Handles and Indices
Not every tap repair involves an internal fault. These parts wear, corrode or break independently and are all straightforward replacements without removing the tap from the installation.
Aerators and Diffusers
Block with limescale and reduce flow to a trickle. Unscrew from the spout end. Check thread size (M22 or M24) before ordering. Cache aerators need an aerator key to remove.
Handles and Levers
Crack or strip their grub screw thread over time. Lift off once the grub screw or retaining screw is removed. Stem shape must match the original before ordering.
Indices and Buttons
The hot and cold indicator discs in the top of pillar tap handles. Discolour or fall out. Push-in types need no tools. Screw-in types need a small flat-blade screwdriver.
Shrouds and Skirts
Decorative covers around the base of the tap body. Corrode or chip without affecting function. Brand and model specific. Grub screws and fixings are stocked separately.
Frequently Asked Questions About Tap Spares
What is the difference between a tap cartridge and a tap washer?
A tap cartridge is the internal valve assembly in modern ceramic disc taps and single-lever mixer taps. It controls flow and, on mixer taps, temperature. A tap washer is the rubber sealing component in traditional pillar taps, where it presses against the tap seat to stop flow. The two are not interchangeable. Ceramic disc taps and mixer taps do not use washers. Traditional pillar taps do not use cartridges. Identifying which type of tap you have is the first step before ordering any internal replacement part.
How do I find replacement tap parts for a discontinued brand?
Search by brand name using the dropdown at the top of this page or through the manufacturers index. Discontinued brands including Bathstore are stocked here where supply still exists. For taps where no standard replacement is listed, a made-to-measure cartridge can be produced against the original valve body dimensions. Remove the existing cartridge, measure the body diameter and overall length, and contact us with the measurements before ordering. We will confirm whether a compatible replacement or bespoke alternative is available.
Do these tap spares cover kitchen taps, bath taps and basin taps?
Yes. This page covers tap spares for all domestic tap types: kitchen mixer taps, bath mixer taps, bath pillar taps, basin mixer taps, basin pillar taps and bath or shower divertor taps. Parts are not separated by application on this page. If you are looking for spares specific to kitchen taps only, the Kitchen Tap Spares category lists parts scoped to kitchen use. Bath tap spares and basin tap spares follow the same pattern as dedicated sub-categories within this section.
