Cover Plates and Back Plates for Shower Valves
Shower Cover Plates Matched to the Valve Body Behind the Wall
The visible plate is keyed to the valve underneath. Aqualisa Aquavalve 605, 609, Quartz Thermo, Colt Concealed, Opto Thermo, Axis Thermo and Dual each take a different plate, and the same applies across Crosswater Kai, Mike Lever, MPRO, Marvel, Belgravia and Alvero. Two plates that look identical on screen will not always swap, because the fixing-hole pattern on the back is set by the valve.
Identify the valve before ordering the plate. The model code is stamped on the brass body behind the wall or on the existing plate itself. If you are renovating and the new plate needs to cover a larger hole left by an old valve, an oversized version exists for some Aqualisa ranges. If you cannot read the code, email a clear photo of the valve and our team will identify it.
Single, Two and Three-Outlet Plates for Concealed Thermostatic Valves
Outlet count is the second filter. Count the dials and diverters coming through the wall before ordering. A valve with a flow control takes a two-outlet plate. A valve with flow control plus diverter takes a three-outlet plate. The catalogue lists outlet variants separately under each brand: Crosswater KL1000BPC for two outlets and KL2000BPC for three, Vado CEL-0010/SQ for single and CEL-0029/SQ for three. A three-hole plate will not disguise a two-outlet valve and a two-hole plate will not stretch to a three-outlet one.
Faceplates, Shrouds, Escutcheons and Securing Rings as Separate Parts
The visible trim around a concealed shower valve is rarely one part. The back plate sits flush against the wall. The faceplate or front plate sits over the valve and carries the brand finish. The shroud is the cylinder that runs from the plate out to the handle, and the escutcheon is the smaller ring around the spindle where the handle meets the trim. The securing ring threads everything together. The plate that has cracked or scratched is often the faceplate alone, not the back plate, and replacing only that part avoids buying the full set. Aqualisa Aquavalve shroud seal 213016, Hansgrohe escutcheons in 155mm and 170mm, Trevi escutcheon rings and Vado replacement escutcheons are all listed individually for that reason.
Frequently Asked Questions About Shower Cover Plates and Back Plates
Does this page cover shower cover plates or shower head plates?
This page covers the trim around a concealed shower valve, the part that sits against the wall and finishes the installation. Back plates, faceplates, shrouds, escutcheons and securing rings all live here. The round plate behind a fixed shower head, the bracket plate behind a slide rail, and the wall plate behind a bath tap are different parts on different pages. If you cannot tell which one you need, send a photo and our team will route you to the right page.
How do I identify which shower cover plate fits my valve?
Identify the valve, not the plate. The brand and model code printed on the brass body behind the wall, on the installation paperwork that came with the valve, or on the back of the existing plate is what determines fitment. Aqualisa Aquavalve 609 takes a different plate from Aquavalve 605. Crosswater KL1000BPC is a two-outlet plate, KL2000BPC is three. Match the code first, then check the outlet count and finish.
What is the difference between a back plate, a cover plate and an escutcheon?
Three different parts. A back plate sits flush against the wall and forms the structural mount. A cover plate or faceplate fits over the valve in front of the back plate and carries the visible finish. An escutcheon is the smaller ring around the spindle where the handle meets the trim. On a concealed thermostatic valve the back plate, the faceplate, and the escutcheons are usually three separate spares, listed and priced individually.
