How to Identify Your Cistern Lid
What customers call the part, and where to find the model.
The replacement is the lid only, not the full cistern. Most people call it a cistern lid. Some call it a cistern cover, cistern top, toilet lid, toilet top or toilet back cover. They all describe the same part. Identification is by manufacturer and model, not by shape or size. Brand markings are usually printed on the inside wall of the cistern rather than on the pan, and the model name or number is often stamped on the underside of the existing lid. For other toilet parts, see the rest of our toilet spares.
Cistern Lid Questions We Get Asked Regularly
The three things customers ask before ordering.
-
Can I buy a toilet cistern lid on its own?Yes. Every product on this page is sold as the cistern lid only, not the full cistern. If your lid is cracked or missing, you do not need to replace the whole toilet. Order the lid that matches your toilet's manufacturer and model. The model number is usually stamped on the underside of the existing lid or on the inside wall of the cistern.
-
Are toilet cistern lids universal? No. Cistern lids are made to fit a specific cistern shape, with the flush opening cut for that toilet's button or lever. A universal cistern lid does not exist as a reliable replacement. If you cannot identify your toilet, send us a photo of the cistern from above and one of the underside of the lid and we will identify it for you.
-
How do I find the right cistern lid for my toilet?Identify the manufacturer first. The brand name is usually stamped or printed on the pan, on the cistern itself, or on the inside of the existing lid. Then find the model name or part number from the same locations. Match both to the product titles on this page. Cistern lid, cistern cover, cistern top, toilet lid and toilet tank lid all describe the same part. Search by the manufacturer's part number, not the name.
