Common Faults and Fixes

Tap dripping from spout
Usually caused by a worn ceramic disc cartridge. Identify by dimensions and spline count for a compatible supply match.
Cistern constantly running
Commonly linked to a flush valve seal or diaphragm. A photo of the valve assembly helps us select the correct parts for you.
Shower temperature fluctuations
Often caused by a worn thermostatic cartridge. Identification is best done via photos of the removed part and spindle measurements.
Slow filling or noisy cistern
Often indicates a blocked or failing inlet valve. Cleaning the filter or replacing the diaphragm washer is the first point of maintenance.
Leaking from tap handle
Typically caused by failing O-rings or a cartridge seal. Replacing the internal seals can often restore function without a full valve change.
Push button not responding
Usually a snapped cable or worn pneumatic bellow. Check the connection between the button and the flush valve tower.

Technical Support FAQ

How do I identify my Ideal Standard cistern model?+
Check the underside of the lid and the inside back wall for an alphanumeric code. If no code is visible, email clear photos of the internals.
My Ideal Standard tap is dripping, what do I need?+
Dripping is commonly caused by a worn ceramic disc cartridge. Matching the cartridge profile using photos and measurements is the safest route.
What photos should I send for identification?+
Send a full item photo, close ups of markings, photos of the removed part, and a measurement reference such as a ruler for scale.
How do I identify a flush valve type?+
Look for markings on the valve body and note the tower layout. A clear photo of the valve in the cistern often confirms the style.
What if my part has no code or markings?+
This is common on older parts. Photos and measurements allow identification by shape, spline count and dimensions.
Are Armitage Shanks parts compatible?+
Many internal components are shared, but identification using model codes or part photos is necessary to confirm.
Where do I find the product code?+
On cisterns, look under the lid or on the back wall. For taps, it is often easier to identify via the cartridge.
Can you help if I only have the front of the unit?+
Yes, but identification is more accurate with photos of the removed cartridge or internal valve.
How long does identification take?+
Our technical team usually identifies parts within one working day once clear photos are received.
Do you supply compatible seal kits?+
Yes, we supply a range of seal kits and washers selected for Ideal Standard products to resolve minor leaks.
